Information From The Coffee Quest:

The Gakundu-Kamviu lot comes from the Kamviu Factory, part of the Gakundu Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS) located in Embu County, Kenya. The washing station receives cherries from approximately 850 smallholder farmers from neighboring villages, including Manyatta, with their farms sitting between 1,650 and 1,800 meters above sea level. The lot is composed of Kenya’s classic varieties: SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru II, and Batian.

Once ripe cherries are delivered to the Kamviu Factory, they are hand-sorted and de-pulped. The coffee is fermented in open tanks, followed by thorough washing in clean water. The parchment is then dried on raised beds for 14 to 21 days, depending on weather conditions, with careful turning and hand-sorting to ensure consistency.

Kamviu Washing Station is one of the cooperatives supported by Kamavindi Coffee Lab. The name “Kamviu” refers to the village where the station is located.

Kamavindi Coffee is a family-run business in Embu, Kenya, founded in 1958 and now operating its own training center and cupping lab. Through their Kamavindi Coffee Lab initiative, they train cooperative societies and factories on processing and post-harvest practices, as well as help them connect directly to international buyers.

We began working with Kamavindi in 2026, drawn by their commitment to transparency, quality, and community education, and we are excited to develop this relationship!
