Miktimb Farmers Group comprises of roughly 45 smallholders in and around Muglamp village, in the Western Highlands Province just north of Mount Hagen town. To source coffee from this group we partner with Rexson “Rex” Rabuni who purchases in cherry from the farmers and processes centrally at his yard in Kenta, just north of Mt. Hagen airport. After paying cash at the farmgate, Rex also provides a per-kg bonus at the end of the year, to build farmer incentive to deliver quality cherry in volume. Rex and Miktimb work hand in hand to delivery high quality cherry then process it carefully according to Crop to Cup standards, which includes slow drying at 10-15 days (vs 3-5 days normal PNG drying time), mostly under shade, and using moisture meters and temperature guns to monitor drying progress. This slow drying method has earned Miktimb and Rex high honors and per-lb bonuses due to cup quality upon import that has far surpassed that of other PNG suppliers. Rex brings to the relationship a high energy for excellence, due to his 15+ year history in coffee as a plantation manager, wet mill manager and exporting with various companies around the PNG coffee scene.
